Unlike any other book, this
book is a collection of 1000 quotes from twelve major religions of the world like
Bahai, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism,
Sikhism, Taoism, Zoroastranism. Kind of like a comparative chart of all the
religions available out there. Author have read holy books from these religions
and carefully selected these quotes which can capture the Essence of their
Teachings and Wisdom.
The Author suggests to read one quote per day and take the day to fully
appreciate its meaning and soak the wisdom. Each chapter before consist of a
brief description of the religion and their sacred symbol before the quotes are
being introduced.
What I really liked about this book is, that in prologue author has shared his story of how he came to the realization that spirituality was similar to the concept like getting into the habit and staying fit. He has shared his experience of first time reading the Bhagvat Gita and the technique he used to fully understand the wisdom it imparts. The first chapter is dedicated to explaining the read how to read this book, as its very different from the traditional book out there, also I really loved what seems to be the purpose of the book i.e., to control our tendency to discriminate against people of other religions and help people empathize towards each other. Through this book readers not also are lifted spiritually but also gain knowledge of other religions. In most cases religions can easily be distinguished by their symbols, but the reason behind that particular symbol is hardly know to anyone, which Author has very well described in this book, clearing many misconceptions perhaps. This book has certainly left me with heightened curiosity to read more about the other religions.
Though author has presented the selected quotes “raw” without commentary or analysis, I wish few of the quotes required some explanation as some quotes seems to be repeated with slight changes of words here or there, I was left wondering whether the quotes was repeated on purposes as it has some different meaning than the previous one or was it an error in disguise.
Conclusion: Person with religious curiosity should definitely pick this book up.
