Young Blood is a collection of ten terrifying horror stories, inspired from various collage tales from places like Khairatabad, Shimla, Delhi, Pune University, Kharagpur, Fergusson, Manipal, Kanpur, Shilong, and Durgapur. Apart from these stories being horror, they also shed light on various issues college going kids face including peer pressure, Suicidal tendency, depression, eve teasing,  Abusive relations etc. The stories differ from each other vastly in terms of setting, characters, basic nature of character, relationships even the evil spirit or ghosts of the stories. All the 10 stories are equally spine chilling and interesting!

What I like the most about this book is that even though these are short stories the author took her time in building the characters, as the story progress we know what they are feeling, readers are introduced well with the basic nature of all the characters. Also the stories are surely petrifying but with a pinch of suspense to it, for instance, many times I was afraid of reading further however the urge of wanting to know the next part kept me going. I like the part in the first story i.e. challenge accepted, there are scientific explanations given why the air feel thick due to fungus accumulation etc. Also I loved how author, has depicted that not all spirit are evil without decreasing the horror element of the story. The way author has developed setting of each story is also spot on! With fear being the primary emotion, author successful invokes other emotions like longing in “challenge accepted”, grief in “The sacrifice”, pity in the “Final possession” and of course regret in “Ghost by chance”. The writing is also very smooth and free flowing.

In one of the stories there is a mention of the story being covered by media and newspapers, thought author has provided notes at the end relating to the inspiration of the stories, I wish she provided a link to that media coverage or the newspaper article. With very less to complain I wish the author tied one or two loose ends in the stories.

I would suggest; after reading each stories, read the notes provided by the author at the end.

Conclusion: Horror lovers would enjoy this one to its core. Also; if you are someone looking to narrate a petrifying stories at your next camp fire/trip, do pick this one up!

Overall the book is 4. 5/5 for me.
